Today's Scripture:
I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.
Luke 7:47
Most women want to love God with all their souls. Some people may wonder, though, how this is possible when so many other responsibilities intrude on their relationship with God. A relevant verse gives us a clue: in the story told in Luke 7, Jesus could allow this, the woman being a prostitute.
Jesus then told a parable about forgiveness, making the point that when you realize how much you are forgiven, you love God greatly. But when you are forgiven little, you love little.
If you hurt someone badly by word or deed and then go to them to ask for forgiveness, that person's forgiveness means a great deal to you. Often he becomes an even better friend to you. Your hurt produced great love.
The woman who went to Jesus was a known prostitute. She gave her body to be used for pleasure of others. In her culture, that was considered a great wrong. But Jesus didn't mean that only prostitutes could appreciate real forgiveness. Their errors, after all, were no greater than other's. A tart tongue can hurt many people. Cheating, stealing, hating, racism, spreading rumors - all these are terrible acts that the Bible condemns.
Selah people' and friends look at the failings your life. Most people can't count the errors and hurts they've caused. But God forgives you for all of them. When you realize how much God forgives, your love for him will grow.
"Will you allow God to take your burden and receive his forgiveness? Join me today in laying our burdens at Jesus feet."
