Today's Scripture:
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:27
In the Old Testament, the word glory is from the Hebrew word kabod. This word can be translated as, among other things, "weight, weightiness, greatness, glory." To be a woman with great weight is not something most women desire. But this is not about physical size or girth as I watch the wonderful spirit and character of "Ruby" battle on television. When the Hebrews spoke of God's glory, the meant his great weight in the eyes of people. He mattered more than anyone else. He possessed ultimate and eternal significance as a person.
Perhaps you have heard the expression "He throws his weight around." Or you've discussed a "heavy issue" like God's sovereignty. Or maybe you have heard that someone "spoke with gravity." Such terms are used to describe important people who possess tremendous power or character, or to describe issues that can't easily be sloughed off. Ultimately, that is the meaning of glory: "significance."
The one who possesses the most glory has the greatest weight or significance.
Colossians 1:27 stands out as one of those verses of tremendous significance for it proclaims that through faith in Jesus the "hope and glory" is gained. How does that happen?
Through faith in Jesus, you become a person of significance, importance, magnitude.
Perhaps you have felt that you don't count or that you aren't an important person to God. Push away such thoughts. If you are following Jesus, you are significant.
Selah people' and friends One day God will elevate you in the eyes of all creation as one of his magnificent subjects. That is the true hope of glory!
"May we lift our hands today united knowing that we all have hope in the glory of God. Lift them high church as we lift each other!"
