Today's Scripture:
Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross.
Philippians 2:5-8
Most people think they have rights: the right to live where they want; the right to do as they please; the right to read and view whatever entertainments they wish; the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These are all human ways of saying, "I'm free. I can do what I want. No one is stopping me." But rights are not the big issue to God. God wants to know how obedient you are to his Word and to his Spirit.
If you think obedience is too tough a rule, consider Jesus. He is royalty. He created the universe. Every person will one day bow the knee to him. Yet when he lived in this world, his attitude was one of abject obedience. He obeyed God the Father even to the point of an excruciating death on a cross.
God wants you to obey even when it involves pain. He desires that you obey even if it isn't in your self-interest. He longs that you learn to obey no matter what the cost. That's how Jesus obeyed. Think of the many women in the Bible who obeyed God: Rahab, Ruth, Deborah, the Virgin Mary, Mary the sister of Lazarus, Mary Magdalene.
You are in good company when you seek to obey God.
Selah people' and friends God values your obedience so much that he promises to exalt every person who obeys, as Jesus did, in his new heavens and earth. Go ahead and obey him ~ trust that it is worth it.
"May we not only grow in Christ as we daily study His word and pray, but also grow in obedience as we yield to what He wants us to do and where He wants us to go."
