Today's Scripture:
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1
This morning as I prepared for work I could see the images of the floods in Havlock here in Eastern North Carolina. The news I was watching was at the national level which open my eyes to just how much rain had fallen and overwhelmed my neighbors not too far away. It got me to thinking about how many of us carry burdens like a dark cloud over us everyday in our spiritual life as well.
These days you don't have to be in court to watch the procedures that people are going through. Through cable & satellite television, movies, and the media and Internet, you can watch cases from your own home. At the end of the trial you'll see the defendant stand as the verdict is read. Often it is "Guilty as charged." The next stage is for the judge to give the sentence. After the judge pronounces the sentence - "Death by lethal injection," "Life imprisonment" - the accused, perhaps wrestling with self-hatred and inner recriminations, is lead out of the courtroom.
No one looks forward to being judged in a court of law. Similarly, no person relishes the idea of standing before God and having his errors read. Guilt is a horrible thing. It makes you feel low, small hated, and broken.
Romans 8:1 speaks volumes of hope to every woman & man who feels the cringe and crush of guilt and judgment. Even though you may not be accused in a court of law, guilt can still pronounce a judgment on your life and make you fell miserable for hours, months, years. There is a great truth about guilt. Its black cloud no longer hovers over your head. No one in heaven accuses you.
Jesus took your guilt away, got rid of it, destroyed it forever. You are acquitted and free.
Your thoughts may accuse, but they are lies. Jesus freed you from guilt and self-hatred and gives you new thoughts and joys.
Selah people' and friends do you want real freedom from guilt? Because of Jesus death on the cross, you are no longer guilty. You are new, clean, and beautiful in his eyes. He doesn't judge you, so don't judge yourself. You are free to live in joy and peace.
"Join me today in allowing the sun to come out and roll the dark clouds away...whatever you've said, whatever you've done can be put behind you if you will allow Christ to come in your life free you of sin and guilt."
