November 8, 2009 ~ Finding God's Treasure

What do you consider wisdom or treasure in your life?

Today's Scripture:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10

A woman learned her late husband had left treasure in their home, but she didn't know what it was. He had been a good man, cautious, kind loving, and decent in every respect. He had never been too concerned with money or being popular. People often came to him for his counsel. His wife wondered what on earth he could have left as the treasure.

She searched all over the house but found nothing. Then one day she found a folded slip of paper in one of his dresser drawers. She remembered that her husband often took it out in the morning, read it, and voiced a quick prayer. She immediately knew this must be the treasure. She unfolded the paper and read:

"This is treasure.Fear God, and everything else is easy."

Selah people' and friends the Bible contains many treasures, including Proverbs 9:10, the essence of the words the husband left behind. Every woman needs wisdom about how to be a godly woman, how to solve her problems, how to prosper and care for her loved ones. You can find this wisdom by first respecting and following God. You can't get all the common sense, godliness, and wisdom you need by reading books. You can't get it by watching PBS. Wisdom comes through relationship, through knowing God.

"God is wise and the source of all wisdom. You can find his wisdom in the Bible. As our worship leader shared during our children's message. Read the Bible, you may not get it all the first, second or third time but stick to it, memorize it, put it in your heart even when your not sure you understand it, what God shares for you to do apply it, and then you too will also will be wise."
