November 17, 2009 ~ A Chip off the Old Block

From birth we naturally imitate and mimic our fathers and mothers...

Today's Scripture:

Be imitators of God as dear children.

Ephesians 5:1

In 1963, an executive form the Kenner toy company realized that the toy industry was turning out a lot of new, exciting toys for boys but that it wasn't doing much for girls. So he came up with the idea of producing an inexpensive oven for girls that looked just like Mom's. And the Easy-Bake Oven was born. Over the years, as oven styles changed, so did the Easy-Bake Oven so that girls could continue to emulate their mothers. After a few years, there were even little Betty Crocker mixes that looked like the ones the adults used were created especially for the little ovens. Kenner didn't originate the idea of creating toys that are mini-versions of tools adults use. Many museums around the country display toy farm equipment, toy kitchen equipment, and other miniature versions of adult paraphernalia.

From the beginning of time, kids have emulated their parents and other grownups.

One of the joys of being around preschoolers and early elementary-age children is watching them observe and mimic teachers' and parents' words, behaviors, and attitudes. It's intriguing to see children grow up to be just like their fathers or mothers.

Selah people' and friends this is the illustration Paul gives in Ephesians 5:1. Since you are a child of God, Paul encourages you to imitate God- to act the way God would, to speak the kind of words God would speak, to think like and to become like God in every way.

"Ask God to help his Spirit become so ingrained in you that those who meet you instantly see glimpses of your Father."
