February 28, 2011 ~ Call It Like You See It!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did"

Romans 4:17

TODAY'S WORD:

One thing I've learned is that God calls the things that are not as if they already are. He doesn't call you what you are; He calls you the way He sees you. That's because He creates with His words, and you do, too.

When I stepped up to pastor Selah church now over 8 years ago, I'd never served as pastor of a church before. I had served as the fill in "preacher" and served our home church at Brownings United Methodist as a Sunday school teacher and all the other lay positions including Sunday school superintendent, one of the leaders of our youth and Men's group and even as the Chairman of the board, but not "The Pastor".

I was afraid. I felt unqualified, inexperienced, and intimidated. The whole time, on the inside, I could hear that still, small voice saying, "Patrick, you are well able. You can do all things. You have what it takes. You are strong in the Lord." God was calling me something that I was not. I was not strong and bold and confident. I was weak, insecure, and intimidated. Somehow, I had the faith to believe what God said about me. And it didn't happen overnight, but little by little, I became what God called me. I can say what others have said for some time now that I am most definitely the pastor of Selah church and the minister of the Gospel that God has chosen me to be. I continue to grow into what He wants me to become and know that He has so much more planned not only for me but for each of you who read this word today.

Selah people and friends today, follow His example and call things that are not as though they are. Look through your eyes of faith and like my good friend Helen would so often do "call it like you see it." Don't use your words to talk about your situation; use your words to change your situation. Keep speaking words of faith, keep praying, keep believing and keep moving forward into the bright future He has for you!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, today I choose to look through my eyes of faith and call things that are not as though they are. I declare victory over every area of my life no matter what is happening around me. Thank You for the gift of faith. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

February 26, 2011 ~ Receive Grace...

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"It is through Him that we have received grace (God's unmerited favor) and [our] apostleship to promote obedience to the faith and make disciples for His name's sake among all the nations"

Romans 1:5

TODAY'S WORD:

When you receive God's grace in your life, you are receiving His favor. Not only is grace God's favor, but it's also His supernatural empowerment. God's grace enables you to accomplish more and be more effective both in your own life and in building the kingdom of God. With grace and favor, you can make a difference in the lives of the people around you. You can "promote faith" by living a life of love.

Selah people' and friends please remember, God wants to empower you with His grace so that you can show love and encourage the people in your life — your coworkers, your family, your friends.

How do you receive grace? By simply opening your heart and thanking Him for it. Thank Him for giving you His grace that empowers you. Then, begin to sow grace and favor into the lives of others. Those seeds will come back to you in a mighty harvest of grace in your future!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your promise of grace in my life. Thank You for unmerited favor and empowering me through Your Word. I receive Your grace right now and invite Your love to flow through me today. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick

February 25, 2011~ Someone's Rooting For You!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us"

Hebrews 12:1

TODAY'S WORD:

Yesterday while visiting with my friend Helen at Kitty Askins I heard some grandparents mention going to see their granddaughter play ball and it inspired me to dig into the word to find scripture to enlighten each of us a bit. God laid this in front of me to share with you.

I grew up playing sports, and I've experienced the difference it makes to have somebody in the stands pulling for you. When you know they're watching you, you hear them calling your name, screaming make em' bleed even when you're a quarterback (Thanks Dad!) you see their hands up in the air; it does something on the inside. It causes you to jump a little higher, throw the perfect pass and run a little faster. You've got a greater determination because you know somebody is rooting for you.

Today, you have a great multitude in heaven cheering you on! They're saying, "You can do it! You're a winner! You are well able, strong and equipped. No weapon formed against you shall prosper!"

No matter what difficulty you may be facing, you always have the home field advantage. You are always surrounded by the voice of victory. Let that sink down deep into your heart today. I come back to this blog after several weeks of being and doing the word for some close friends in our community. I have been rooting for her and her family. Now she is rooting for us from above. I share with each of your reading these words today to let this thought of others in heaven pulling for you build confidence in you and give you the strength you need to keep moving forward into the abundant, victorious life He has prepared for you!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, open the eyes of my heart. Help me to see the grand stands of heaven cheering me on. Thank You for instilling confidence, power and grace in me so that I can run my race and finish strong! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick

February 2, 2011 ~ Brag on Him Today

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"The LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes"

Psalm 118:23

TODAY'S WORD:

I love David's attitude in today's verse. He was declaring the goodness of God and bragging on His faithfulness! We need to always remember that every blessing in our life is from Him. That promotion, good break, healing or new opportunity — that was God's doing. Scripture says that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above.

We used to sing a song growing up, "Look What the Lord Has Done." It was a song that just bragged on God. It was a great reminder that all through the day we should be bragging on God's goodness. We should be remembering His mighty acts. See, when we give God all the glory, that's when He will pour out His blessings in greater measure. When we are humble and don't try to take the credit, His grace and favor increases on us.

Selah people' and friends today, look for opportunities to brag on God. If you are breathing today, brag on Him as your Creator. If you got to work safely today, brag on Him for being your Protector. If you are facing a difficulty, brag on the fact that He is your Deliverer and breakthrough is on the way! Keep declaring His goodness and faithfulness and watch what God will do on your behalf!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, You alone are worthy of all the praise and glory for the good things in my life! Thank You for blessing me, thank You for the breakthroughs in my past and the breakthroughs in my future. I bless You because You are good, and I choose to brag on You today! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick

February 1, 2011 ~ Handfuls on Purpose

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you,

if you obey the voice of the Lord your God"

Deuteronomy 28:2

TODAY'S WORD:

Our God is a rewarder of those who seek Him! When you keep God first place and do your best to honor Him, the Scripture says, "His blessings will chase you down and overtake you." That means you will come into increase, promotion and good breaks that you didn't necessarily deserve. That's God rewarding you for walking in His ways.

We see this principle in the Old Testament with Ruth. She was out in the fields following behind the workers and gathering up the leftover wheat that they missed. She was trying to take care of her mother-in-law, Naomi, but they were barely surviving. One day, the owner of the fields told the workers to leave handfuls of wheat on purpose for Ruth. Ruth came into blessings that were simply dropped at her feet.

Selah people' and friends every one of us can look back and see times where God has left us handfuls on purpose — something that we didn't deserve or even ask for. We just stumbled into it. That's a "handful on purpose."

I encourage you to always keep your expectancy up. Keep trusting God and obeying His voice because He is ready to bless you in unexpected ways today!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. I trust You as my Provider; You are the One who cares for me. I acknowledge You with my love and thank You for leaving me "handfuls on purpose" today! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,
Patrick
