March 16, 2010 ~ Mount Olive Pickle on UNC-TV

The team at UNC-TV sees the show a little while before it hits the air statewide and Kelly McCullen got some good feedback on his story about the Mount Olive Pickle Company. They were there a few weeks ago and it was a condensed area of rural North Carolina that, at times, contains 40 MILLION pounds of pickles. Yes, folks, we eat that many Mount Olive pickles and relishes. It also doesn't touch their pickled okra and peppers. Enjoy the piece. It's more sweet than dill.

Hope each of you are having a blessed week.

March 15, 2010 ~ A Heart at Peace

As we journey through life may we do so with a peacful heart...

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones"

Proverbs 14:30

Did you know the best thing you can do for health is to set your heart at peace with God? Peace is such a powerful position. It is a position of life and strength. Peace literally means "to set at one again." In other words, we have peace when our minds and hearts are in alignment with the Word of God.

It's so easy to let the pressures and distractions of life pull our thoughts away from the Father.

It doesn't take long before we are so focused on earthly things that we feel overwhelmed and all stressed out. But, we weren't meant to live anxious about life, we were meant to live in peace.
Today, choose to keep your heart at peace by staying focused on God the Father.

Selah people' and friends put the stress of this world out of your heart and mind. Give life to your body by staying in agreement with Him. Let His peace guard your heart so that you can be equipped to live the abundant life He has promised to you! We are not created to be defeated but have been wonderfully made to live a life full of His glory and victory!

"Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which is life to my soul. I praise You because You are the Prince of Peace and give peace to my heart and mind. I choose to stay focused on You today. Thank You for guiding my every step. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

March 7, 2010 ~ The Gospel Of Creation

God created all things and you
are one of his greatest creations!

Today's Scripture:

From the time the world was created, People have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.

Romans 1:20

The Milky Way, the Great Barrier Reef, the northern lights, the miracle of birth...the universe is filled with wonders that point to the existence of someone as Creator. People disagree over who this Creator is and whether he is actively involved in the world today. Yet the intricacy, orderliness, and sheer awesomeness of the natural world confirm what the human heart has felt since the dawn of time - there is more to this life than what meets the eye.

What is visible proclaims the existence of something invisible.

Some people have rejected this truth, but that doesn't make it any less true. Paul discussed in his letter to the Romans how people knew God was there but did not thank him or give glory to him for what he'd done. They chose instead to go their own foolish ways. The good news is that God is real. His fingerprints are everywhere, and you can understand more about who he is by simply studying what he's made.

Selah people' and friends knowing about God's character is not the same thing as knowing him. However, recognizing there is a God is the first step in seeking him. Through the wonder of creation, God has left no room for anyone choosing to do anything less.

"You can make the truth found in Romans more real to you by exploring the world around you, thereby discovering new things about God's character. Praise God for everything you learn. He has so much to teach us at every age young and old. Please join me as we grow together in Christ."

March 5, 2010 ~ God's Chisel

Are you ready to be made by God?

Today's Scripture:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:10

Selah people' and friends we need to allow God to work on us and take full control. Isn't he trying to take control of your life today? I know your pain and so does he. Please allow him to mold us into the image of His Son Jesus! Let us pray together as we are being made.

March 4, 2010 ~ Amazing Grace!

Grace Groner lives her life to give for others...

‘Amazing Grace’ leaves behind amazing gift

March 5: Grace Groner, a modest woman who bought her clothes at rummage sales, left her college alma mater $7 million when she recently died. As TODAY’s Natalie Morales reports, the money grew from a $180 stock purchase made in 1935.

Link to story:

Today's Scripture:

So then, we must always aim at those thngs that bring peace and that help strengthen one another.

Romans 14:9

I ask each of you today "do we live our life for self or others?" I know many of us waste so much energy worrying only about ourselves and what we want. Listen to Amazing Grace's story and see if we have some things we could change in our lives that will truly impact other people even after we are gone.

‘Amazing Grace’ leaves $7m for alma mater
Ill. woman who lived modestly leaves $7 million for Lake Forest College

By Aixa Velez
NBCChicago.com

updated 2:59 p.m. ET, Fri., March. 5, 2010
Grace Groner lived through the Great Depression, so saving money was her expertise.

Nobody knew just how much she had saved until she died in January at age 100 and left $7 million to Lake Forest College, her alma mater.

"Oh, my God," said Lake Forest College President Steve Schutt after finding out the amount.

Groner found ways to save money. She shopped for clothes at rummage sales and walked places instead of buying a car.

"She did not have the (material) needs that other people have," William Marlatt, her attorney and longtime friend, told The Chicago Tribune. "She could have lived in any house in Lake Forest but she chose not to. … She enjoyed other people, and every friend she had was a friend for who she was. They weren't friends for what she had."

She lived in a one-bedroom house in Lake Forest and worked for Abbott Laboratories as a secretary for 43 years. Groner never felt the urge to keep up with the lavish Lake Forest lifestyle, but she did splurge occasionally.

A fortune of millions
Groner began donating small amounts of money toward small scholarship program at the college, and always said she planned on donating more after passing away, but nobody expected her contribution to be in the millions.

The source of her wealth, it turns out, emanates from $180 stock purchase she made in 1935. She consistently reinvested her earnings and grew the purchase into a $7 million fortune.

The money will help about 1,300 Lake Forest students pursue internships and study-abroad programs that they may not have had the chance to take advantage without Groner’s hefty donation.

Aside from the $7 million donation, she also left her small house to the college, which will house scholarship winners who benefited from her donation.
