July 29, 2011 ~ This One Thing

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"...I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead"

Philippians 3:13,

TODAY'S WORD:

Are you determined to forget the past? I know many people don't fully understand what that means. They wonder, "How can I forget something that's happened to me?" But one definition of the word forget is to disregard intentionally or to overlook. In other words, you have to choose to disregard your past so that it doesn't hold you back. That means the good and the bad. Sometimes our past victories keep us from rising higher as much as our past failures can. If we don't let go of the old, we'll never be able to embrace the new.

Selah people' and friends It doesn't matter what's happened in your past, it's time to forget what lies behind and make the choice to look forward. Trust that God has a better future in store for you. Trust that He's working behind the scenes on your behalf. Trust that He who promised is faithful — as you forget what lies behind and press forward, you'll experience His power and blessing in a fresh, new way.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, I choose to forget the past today. I don't want anything to hold me back from the good future You have prepared for me. I choose forgiveness and ask that You help me, by Your Spirit, to press forward in every area of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

July 28, 2011 ~ Value Every Moment

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom"

Psalm 90:12

TODAY'S WORD:

Sometimes, our days can be so full and busy that we forget how precious and fragile life here on earth really is. I often catch myself being about my work and having to stop and just hang out with my family playing ball or in the pool. Life is passing us by and It can be so easy to allow little things to creep in and steal our peace and joy.

Maybe something doesn't go our way, or someone says something upsetting or post some off the wall comment about you or someone you care about on Facebook. We can even let traffic can cause us to get our focus off if we let it and turn into road raging Christians out for blood. You see my friends we have to remember that each day is a gift. If we choose to focus on what's wrong, we'll miss the beauty that each day has to offer.

Selah people' and friends I encourage you today; don't let the precious moments of life pass you by. Don't wait for holidays and birthdays to show people that you care. I enjoyed a retirement party a few years ago for one of workers at his church. His pastor shared that we should give people flowers to the living not just at the funeral and that is what we did for Eugene Swinson. We offered our words of his life and how much he meant to us while he could here and see and smell them with joy.

Remember, each day is unique and irreplaceable. You and I have been given time that can be invested or wasted; hours that can be used or misused. That's why the psalmist prayed to God, "Teach us to number our days." He was saying, "Teach us to value every moment we've been given." As you keep a proper perspective, you'll gain a heart of wisdom. You'll draw closer to God and experience the full blessing that He has for you!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of today. I choose to focus on the blessing of each moment instead of allowing the little things to steal my joy. Keep me close to You always as I submit every area of my heart and mind to You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

July 27, 2011 ~ Abide in Him

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who abides in Me while I abide in him produces much fruit..."

John 15:5

TODAY'S WORD:

Did you know that God wants you to live in Him? That's right my friends He wants to be your source of life. He wants you to abide in Him and rely on Him for everything. He wants to be your source for strength, provision, hope and joy. Like the air you breathe, He wants you to rely on Him for your very existence.

Abiding in God begins by meditating on Him, His Word and His goodness. You stop and think about Him when you go to sleep at night. You think about Him when you first wake up. You think about His promises all throughout the day and continually fellowship with Him in prayer. You make Him your number one priority and stay connected with other believers at church.

Selah people' and friends notice what this verse says will happen when you abide in Him — you will produce much fruit! When you are connected to God, everything you set your hand to will be fruitful and blessed. Just like a branch thrives when it is connected to the vine, you're going to thrive and be prosperous when you are connected to Almighty God.

Depend on Him today and make Him your number one priority. Abide in Him and let Him pour out His abundant favor and blessing on you all the days of your life.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, today I choose to abide in You. Like the air I breathe, I know I am totally dependent on You. Thank You for Your promise of blessing on me and help me to always be a blessing to other people. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Patrick

July 26, 2011 ~ Say So!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has delivered from the hand of the adversary"

Psalm 107:2

TODAY'S WORD:

Brothers and Sisters I know I have taken a little sabbatical from my blog but I returned now to proclaim God will anoint the words I share with you and He will bless and move us in positive direction as His redeemed people. As I have taken a break to pursue some other forms of devotion and recharge myself kept putting things in front of me to remind me I need to "Say" what I have to say to myself and others and not keep it in. I must admit I was beginning to doubt if these blogs that go out like messages in a bottle were of true value in God's kingdom. I believe now more than ever I need to speak God's blessing and favor in all things so I digress and continue to make a joyful noise in this form of media, witness and ministry.

Notice that scripture doesn't say "Let the redeemed of the Lord think so. Let the redeemed believe so." Of course it's important to think right, and it's important to believe right, but something supernatural happens when we declare something out loud. And, you don't even have to say it to anyone else; you can just say it to yourself — driving to work or in the shower. You can say, "The economy may be low, but I am blessed. I am prosperous. I will lend and not borrow." "I may have had some setbacks, but I know those setbacks are a setup for a comeback! This is still going to be my best year so far. The favor of God is turning things around."

Selah people' and friends when you do this you are prophesying your future. When you say what the Lord has done for you, when you declare that you are redeemed, you are opening the door for God to move on your behalf. The scripture tells us that He watches over His Word to perform it. When you declare His Word, when you speak His promises, He is faithful to fulfill them and lead you into victory all the days of your life!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for delivering me and setting me free. I will declare Your goodness. I will declare Your promises. I will declare Your favor so that I can live the good life You have prepared for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick

July 15, 2011 ~ Pray without Ceasing

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"Pray without ceasing."

1 Thessalonians 5:17

TODAY'S WORD:

Why are we so deeply challenged by the Apostle Paul's instruction to make every aspect of our lives a prayer? We tend to think of praying as occasionally talking to God. But clearly the Apostle has a different idea about the nature of prayer than the one we ordinarily have.

"All our capacities—reason, speech, volition, affection, and action—must be molded by the activity of prayer. Moreover, as prayer becomes central in our lives, all that we do becomes part of prayer. As the Benedictine motto has it, laborare est orare—towork is to pray."  Bruce Ellis Benson and Norman Wirzba

"We get on our knees before bed or offer a blessing at table at the appropriate times of day, and we think of these as moments of prayer and are certainly not doing them all the time," notes Paul Griffiths. "But for the Christian tradition, for the most part, this is an impoverished understanding of prayer. I agree with him that It is not wrong, it is just inadequate." In the Apostle Paul's astonishing call for unceasing prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17), Griffiths discerns a deeper understanding of the nature of prayer.

Paul sees all the good things we enjoy—talents, opportunities, and virtues; family, friends, and institutions; food, clothing, and latest technologies; indeed our very lives—as undeserved gifts from God (1 Corinthians 4:7). To be grateful for them is to acknowledge our indebtedness to and welcome a relationship with God—two

attitudes that are essential to adoration and prayer. This suggests, writes Griffiths, that to pray constantly "is to cultivate the habit of gratitude for gift in such a way that being grateful becomes, for us, an attitude that informs all we do."

Selah people' and friends developing a habit of unceasing prayer would change how we perceive, care for, and act in the world and toward others around us.

It would make us:

·         More attentive to the particulars of our own and others' giftedness. Contrast how you would treasure a keepsake from your beloved with how you might neglectfully use a pushy advertiser's unwanted 'gift.' In the former case, you notice the details of the gift and lovingly guard it. Through prayer, one begins to experience other people and the good things of this world that way.

·         More receptive to God. When Augustine (354-430) wondered why God, who already knows everything we need or want, tells us to petition for things in prayer, he concluded: "God wants our desire to be exercised in our prayers, so that we become able to receive what he is prepared to give." Prayer trains our love. When we do not pray, "our hearts are trammeled in the direction of ungrateful possessiveness," Griffiths notes. But through the practice of prayer, "our hearts are opened, increasingly and gradually, to the possibility of receiving the gift, which is, in the end, sanctification."

 ·     Finally, it can make us less anxious and afraid. "Our desires, sculpted into gratitude's shape by ceaseless prayer, become attuned to the fact that the happy or blessed life is in fact being constantly offered to us by the Lord,". This allows us to see the world as it is—its sufferings and injustices and agonies, though real, are not the last word."

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, help each of us to know that unceasing prayer is a grateful attitude toward God and that under-girds all our thoughts and activities not just on Sunday. Allow each of us to know that verbal prayers of adoration, confession, thanksgiving, petition, or intercession can become instances of a praying attitude. Open us up to pray in private as well as corporate worship…without ceasing. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Patrick

July 14, 2011 ~ Free for All...

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"...God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear Him and do what is right"

Acts 10:34–35

TODAY'S WORD:

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom — and God's freedom is free for everyone! It doesn't matter what your nationality or heritage is, or who your family is. It doesn't matter how much money you have or don't have. God wants you free from everything that would hold you back from having a personal relationship with Him.

You see my brothers and sisters God longs to pour out His goodness and blessing on all who honor Him and do what is right. In fact, the Bible says in Galatians that in Christ, there is no Jew or Greek or even male or female. That means:

God's not judging you based on physical conditions. He's looking at your heart. He's looking at the gifts He's placed inside of you. He's responding to your faith in Him.

Selah people' and friends don't let the enemy lie to you and tell you that God is blessing everyone else but you. Look for the ways He is pouring out blessing in your life. Thank Him for His acceptance, love and freedom. Focus on honoring Him and doing what is right, and you'll find freedom and blessing in and through Him.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for loving and accepting me. I choose to do what is right and honor You with my attitude, words and actions. Holy Spirit, show me if there is anything in my life that isn't pleasing to You and help me live as an example of Your goodness all the days of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Patrick

July 12, 2011 ~ Declare Your Freedom...

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"You have been set free from sin..."

Romans 6:18

TODAY'S WORD:

This past week on July 4th in America, we celebrated Independence Day. July 4, 1776 was the day America declared her independence, but the battle for freedom went on until 1783 — seven years later. Even though the people declared their freedom in 1776, they had to stand and fight for many years before the British would accept and recognized the United States of America. I bring this back to our attention now a week later to see where you and I declare our personal and spiritual freedom today?

You see my brothers and sisters in the same way, we have to declare our freedom and be determined to stand against the opposing forces in our lives, not just those as a community or country. We have to declare our freedom from addiction, poverty, sickness and lack. We have to stand and fight until we fully experience His freedom and the peace that He has promised.

I love what the early colonists did once they signed the Declaration of Independence. They read it out loud in public. They published it in the newspaper. They spread the word. They continued to declare and celebrate even though they were in the midst of the battle of their lives.

Selah people' and friends whatever battle you may be facing today, declare that you are free! Declare that you are an overcomer! Celebrate now because the victory you seek is on the way!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Heavenly Father, thank You for setting me free in every area of my life. I declare today that nothing can hold me back. I declare that I am free from sickness, poverty, lack and addiction. I declare that You have set me free and thank You for freedom and discipline in every area of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

In Christ service,

Patrick

July 9, 2011 ~ Speak as the Oracles of God!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God..."

1 Peter 4:11

TODAY'S WORD:

When God wants to speak to people on earth, do you know how He does it? Most often, He speaks through His people. He uses our voice to bring life, healing and hope to others. When you reach out to someone, when you're kind and speak encouragement, God's voice is blended with your voice. Your words become His words. The natural takes on a supernatural. That's why you can say something ordinary, something simple like "You look beautiful" or "You can make it," and it's life changing to the other person. To you it's nothing, but when God takes your natural and puts His super with it, it can impact that person's destiny. Join me in allowing God to use us to do His super natural works through us.

Selah people' and friends today, remember, you are God's voice in the earth. When you speak to others, declare what God would say about them. Let your words be used to bring life, hope and blessing. Speak as the oracles of God and be His mouthpiece everywhere you go.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing and using me. I surrender every area of my being to You. Use me to be a blessing to others. Give me Your peace, strength and joy as I keep my mind stayed on You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick

July 7, 2011 ~ You Have the Power!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"The tongue has the power of life and death..."

Proverbs 18:21

TODAY'S WORD:

Our words have the power to lift people up or push people down. We can say something to make others feel better about themselves or make them feel worse. My daughter Maddie and I went to visit a good friend John Perry at Wake Medical and we had several opportunities not only to lift up John and his family but several strangers on our way to the car. Just putting a smile on their face and lifting up their spirits in the middle of a difficult time. One of the older ladies we shared with had just had both her legs amputated. To see her eyes light up and a smile on her face…what a blessing.

It's amazing what a simple compliment will do. When you tell someone "You look nice today," or "thanks for helping with the chores" or "Great job on that presentation at the office," or "I really enjoy working with you," those simple words will put a spring in their step and brighten their day. It doesn't take much time and doesn't cost you anything, yet with your words, you can bless their life. Each of us that have accepted Jesus as our Savior have the same Holy Spirit power to use for God's purpose.

Selah people' and friends that's the power God has given each one of us. Every day we should have a goal of finding at least one person that we can encourage. Let's be free with our compliments. Point out what somebody is doing right, not what they are doing wrong. There is already enough pushing people down. Let's make it our business to lift people up, to brighten their day, to make them feel better about themselves. Who are you going to touch today? Don't wait another minute get up and be a blessing for someone else. Remember, your words are seeds. When you deposit life and blessing into others, that's what you'll reap in your own life in return!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, thank You for filling me with Your life-giving power. I choose to use my words to bless others and glorify You. Show me ways to sow seeds of life into others. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick
