September 30, 2010 ~ Trust Him with Your Dreams...

Where do you put your trust?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives”

John 12:24

TODAY’S WORD:

Selah people' and friends yesterday we shared about "God-Given" dreams and though it’s good to be passionate about your dreams did you know a dream can actually become an idol? If it’s all you think about, and you’re not going to be happy unless it happens "your way", that’s out of balance. I prayed about this as I was riding home last night from Rex Hospital in Raleigh. I reflected on many dreams in my own life, those my wife Jennifer and I share and those I have as the pastor of Selah Church. The fact is, sometimes you have to release that dream back to the Father.

Sometimes we can get frustrated because we are trying to force things to happen on our timetable. Sometimes we hold on to things so tightly, but when we finally are willing to let them go, that’s when God can bring them to pass. If you’ll choose to release that frustration and not let it become the center of your attention, but instead, use that same time and energy to thank God that He’s directing your steps, you open the door for God to give you the desires of your heart.

We have to remember, God already knows what we want and what we need. He’s the One who put those desires in us. We shouldn’t be consumed by trying to make things happen. Instead, a greater act of faith is to be happy right where you are; to stay open and trust God because He has good plans in store for your future!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, today I release my dreams, my desires, my “wants” like a seed falling to the ground. I know that You have a good plan for my future, and I trust You to bring it to pass in my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

September 29, 2010 ~ God-given Dreams

Where is God directing you today?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure”

Proverbs 16:9

TODAY’S WORD:

Oftentimes as children, we have dreams for the future, dreams of being ball players and actresses, super heroes and firemen. But most of the time, they end up just being wishful thinking. As we get older, we grow out of them. It’s good to play and have dreams as children, but when we grow up, we have to know the difference between a God-given dream and a wish. I remember when I was a little boy growing up in Texas, I dreamed of playing Quarterback and leading the Dallas Cowboys to a Super Bowl Championship. That was definitely a fantasy! Troy Aikman ended up with the job and was blessed with three Super Bowl Rings.

Selah people' and friends I challenge you to join me today to look beyond our wishes as we all have dreams placed inside of us by the Creator of the universe. In fact, the Latin word for “desire” means “from the Father.” One way to tell if a dream is really from God is that the desire won’t go away. You may have had it for years, but you still can’t let it go. In fact, you may have tried to let it go, but it won’t let go of you.

Today, I encourage you to search your heart and allow those God-given dreams to surface. He placed those desires inside of you for a purpose, and He’s going to use them to direct you into the destiny He has in store for you!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for the dreams and desires You’ve placed within me. I submit those dreams to You and ask that You direct my steps. Search my heart and make my thoughts agreeable to Your Word and to Your plan for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

The Power of Kindness...

Are we Christians who are kind all the time
and to everyone or just when we feel like it?

Today, I'd like to share a personal story from a short inspiration book "The Power of Kindness". I received this from one of my favorite suppliers of inspiration Mac Anderson with with simpletruths.com this morning...Enjoy!

The Power of Kindness ~

It was a COLD, WINDY DAY in Chicago. The time...6:00am. The place...O'Hare Airport. The mood...tired!

I was going through airport security with 300 of my "closest friends." As I successfully walked through the scanner, I glanced to my right and one of the security guards was going through the bag of a young Arab man. For an instant, I remember thinking...I am glad they're checking that bag. I then put on my shoes, gathered my belongings and headed down concourse B in the United terminal.

I had walked about a 100 yards when I heard someone running behind me and yelling, "Sir, Sir." I turned around to see the young Arab man with a smile on his face, as he handed me my laptop computer that I had left in the bin at security. He then said, "I thought you might need this!"

I thanked him over and over, but he said, "No problem, you would have probably done the same for me."

For as long as I live, I'll never forget that moment. We live in a complicated world where it can be easy to be afraid, and easy to be prejudiced. However, I truly feel that 99% of the people in the world, regardless of their skin color or religion, want to do the right thing, and want to be kind when given the opportunity. Therefore, we must always guard against allowing the 1% to sway our thinking. You may not know this, but almost every religion, and every culture in the world, has one thing in common...they teach kindness as a virtue. They teach "their version" of the golden rule...not the exact words, but the same meaning.

The wonderful lesson that I "re-learned" that morning at the airport was this...labeling can be disabling. It was a lesson taught to me by an unexpected act of kindness...one I'll never forget!

The great English writer, Aldous Huxley, was a pioneer in the study of philosophies and techniques to develop human potential. In a lecture toward the end of his life, he said this:

"People often ask me...what is the most effective technique for transforming their lives?"

He then said, "It's a little embarrassing that after years and years of research, my best answer is just be a little kinder."

This is the paradox of the power of kindness. It doesn't feel powerful at all. In fact, it almost feels too simple to be important. But as Huxley said, it is the #1 thing that can transform your life.

How can that be? Because simply put, kindness is the foundation of a good heart and with a good heart...a good life will follow.

Selah people' and friends I ask you today to use this simple thought to inspire you to be more like Jesus and thus to be kind. May this power of kindness spread like wildfire unto all we come in contact with and may we slowly squash our bitterness and the prejudice that we all hold on to in some form or another. Be kind and be blessed!

September 28th, 2010 ~ Giving Birth to Your Dreams

Grab hold of your dream and don't let go!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world”

John 16:21

TODAY’S WORD:

Years ago when we first found out that Jennifer was pregnant, we were so excited. Even though she didn’t look any different on the outside, we began planning and preparing for our new baby. Then as time went on, we moved out of the fun, easy stage of conception and into that much more difficult stage of development. That’s when the mother becomes uncomfortable, swollen, can’t sleep at night, her back aches and Jennifer was exhausted and believe it or not so was I. Things seem to get the hardest right before the birthing begins.

In a sense, it’s the same way in our spiritual lives. When we conceive something in our hearts from God, it’s so exciting. It’s easy to stay encouraged and full of faith during that time. But the real test is when we go through the development process. Are we willing to keep a good attitude even when we’re uncomfortable and things aren’t going our way?

Are we willing to stand and fight the good fight of faith until we give birth to our dreams?

Selah' people and friends if you’re standing for something today, keep standing. Keep believing even when you don’t see anything happening. Hold on to that promise even when it’s uncomfortable because soon you will give birth to every dream and desire the Lord has placed in your heart!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for the dreams and desires You’ve planted in my heart. Give me the strength to persevere even when times are hard. Give me Your peace and joy so that I can stand strong until I see those dreams and desires come to pass. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

Patrick

September 27, 2010 ~ Stir Up Your Dreams

Do you have your eyes lifted up on what God has planned?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you...”

2 Timothy 1:6

TODAY’S WORD:

Selah people' and friends I thought about our sermon yesterday on "If Hell Was a Real Place?" It made me think of how many of us have dreams of how great our lives will be and then those dreams fade and turn sour. Do you need some freshness in your life today? You may simply need to stir up what God has placed on the inside of you. Stir up those gifts, stir up those dreams, stir up those talents inside. Start stretching yourself. You were created to be a dreamer and to pursue the desires God has placed in your heart.

The Scripture tells us that without vision, people perish. If you don’t have a dream or vision for your life, you’re not really going to reach your fullest potential. Maybe at one time you had a dream, but you went through some disappointments or setbacks. Things didn’t turn out the way you planned. But here’s a key: when one dream dies, dream another dream. Just because it didn’t work out the way you had it planned doesn’t mean that God doesn’t have another plan. You cannot allow one disappointment or even a series of disappointments to convince you that your dream is over.

It’s time to dig your heals in and hold on to the promises in your heart. Stir up those God-given dreams today and watch Him pour out His favor and blessing upon you and fulfill every desire in your heart!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, I come humbly to You. I give You my past, my disappointments, my brokenness. Fill me with Your hope and expectation and give me the dreams and desires that You have in store for my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

September 26, 2010 ~ Live like you were dying...

Today's Scripture:

"It was by faith that Jacob, when he was old and dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons and bowed in worship as he leaned on his staff. And it was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, confidently spoke of God's bringing the people of Israel out of Egypt. He was so sure of it that he commanded them to carry his bones with them when they left!"

Hebrews 11:21-22

Today's Word:

"The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something."

~Randy Pausch

Randy Pausch was 47 years old when he died from pancreatic cancer. He was, as the Independent of London put it, "the dying man who taught America how to live". His book, The Last Lecture, is an international best-seller and it offers many wonderful lessons about life.

Randy Pausch's "last lecture" was delivered in September 2007, at Carnegie Mellon University, where he taught computer science. The lecture began with him standing before a screen beaming down chilling CT images of tumors in his liver, under the title...The Elephant in the Room. He then said to a stunned audience, "I have about 6 months to live." He said, "I'm really in good shape, probably better shape than most of you," ... dropping to the floor to do push-ups.

He went on to say, "I'm dying and I'm having fun, and I'm going to keep having fun every day I have left." He talked about his childhood dreams and what they had taught him about life. He said, "If you live your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself...your dreams will come to you."

Randy Pausch really was a dying man who has taught America how to live.

He died on July 25, 2008, but his wisdom, his passion, and his attitude are lasting sources of inspiration for all of us.

Selah people' and friends I love stories that can engage our hearts and our souls! I ask each of you today "are you living to die or are you dying to live?" Only you know that answer and only you can do something about it.

Our Prayer For Today:

"Gracious Lord you give each of us a gift each and every day that we wake up and have breath and life and the ability to enjoy this temporary life. We ask you today to help us put aside the pains and trials that are before us and instead focus and enjoy the blessings and beauty of all that is around us and those that we love. May we live a life truly worth living. Amen".

September 25, 2010 ~ God-Ordained Moments

God has great plans for you...are you listening?

Today's Scripture:

"For I know the plans I have for you,”declares the Lord”, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”

Jeremiah 29:11

Today's Word:

God created every one of us to be successful. Before the foundation of the world, He laid out an exact plan for our life. And in this plan, He has marked moments that are going to come across our paths. These moments are not ordinary. They are destiny-altering moments. They are designed to thrust you years ahead. It says in Ecclesiastes that “time and chance come together for every person.”

That means you’ll have opportunities to meet the right people, opportunities to advance in your career, opportunities to fulfill your dreams. God has already pre-arranged times of increase and blessing. You may not be seeing a lot of good breaks right now, but let me encourage you; there are seasons of favor and seasons of increase marked for your future. There are God-ordained moments planned out for you. Don’t miss these moments! Don’t stop believing, and don’t get distracted by what’s going on in the world around you. Focus on removing the clutter from your life so that you can hear the still, small voice. Approach today with an attitude of faith and expectancy. As you do, you’ll embrace the God-ordained moments that are ordered for you!

Our Prayer for Today:

"Father God, thank You for ordering my steps. Thank You for making a way when there seems to be no way. I choose to step out today with faith and expectancy so that You can move in my life. I trust You with my destiny and thank You for fulfilling every desire of my heart today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

September 24, 2010 ~ New Garments

Are you stuck wearing your garments of the past???

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“Provide for those who grieve...a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor”

Isaiah 61:3

TODAY’S WORD:

Do you need a new garment today? I’m not talking about a physical garment. I’m talking about what’s covering your mind and emotions. Are you clothed with despair and disappointment? Are you wearing ”heaviness?” If you’ve gone through a hurtful situation, the Bible says there is a time to grieve, and it’s important to release that hurt to the Lord.

But the Bible also tells us that God wants to give you a garment of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness and despair.

Selah people' and friends are the garments of yesterday weighing you down and holding you back? It’s time for a new garment. The garment of praise is light and filled with peace and joy. Don’t carry those heavy burdens around anymore. Choose to forgive those who have hurt you and praise God for what He’s doing in your life today. If nothing else, start thanking Him for the beautiful sunrise. Thank him for restoring you, even if you don’t see it yet. Just like this verse says, you will be as strong and secure as a tall oak tree, displaying His splendor all the days of your life!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, I come to You today and ask that You take off my old, heavy garments of despair and heaviness. Make me new today. Give me a garment of praise so that I can be a display of Your glory and splendor. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

September 23, 2010 ~ The Apple of His Eye

You are the Apple of His eye...God values you as His #1 Priority!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“Keep me as the apple of Your eye...”

Psalm 17:8

TODAY’S WORD:

In this day and age, people are considered to be important for so many different reasons—titles, position, possessions, where you go, what you drive. But God’s value system is very different from the value system of the world. God cherishes and values you so much today simply because He made you.

You are the apple of His eye; the center of His world!

If you’ve ever thought that God has too many other important things on His plate to be concerned with you and your life, know this today—you are God’s number one priority. And there’s nothing you can do to be more important or less important to Him. He values you today and your value will never change. You are significant. Your life is significant. The things that concern you, concern God. He carefully watches over every detail of your life, and there is nothing too big or too small for His attention.

Today, don’t be afraid to take your concerns and cares to the Father. He loves to hear you call upon Him. He is waiting to show Himself strong on your behalf.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for loving me today. Thank You for keeping me the apple of Your eye. I open my heart and mind to You and cast every care on You. I receive Your love for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

September 22, 2010 ~ Reflect Him...

Does your life reflect that of Jesus?
It can if we share His Attitude.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]”

Philippians 2:5

TODAY’S WORD:

When you reflect something, you are exhibiting its likeness. You are displaying its characteristics. Like a mirror, the Bible tells us that we should reflect the character and likeness of Jesus. We should have His same attitude.

That may sound like a pretty tall order; after all, Jesus was the Son of God. But remember, when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we become sons and daughters of the Most High God, too. We become empowered by the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. That means we have the same spirit of humility—the same strength, the same love, and the same power on the inside. We are equipped to follow His example and do what He did. What did He do? The scripture says that Jesus walked the earth. He went around doing good and bringing healing to others; physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Notice that today’s verse starts by saying, “Let...” See, we have to open the door for God to work in our attitudes and actions. We have to be the ones to invite Him in. When we open our hearts and minds to Him, we will reflect Him in our attitudes and actions. Just like Jesus, we’ll bring good to others and reap an abundant harvest of blessing in every area in return.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, I invite You to dwell in my thoughts, heart and attitude. I choose to follow Your example and bring good to others. Help me to be a pure reflection of Your love in everything I do. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

September 21, 2010 ~ The Competitive Edge

Are we truly doing all we can to push ourselves to have an edge?

Today's Scripture:

I'm staying alert and in top condition. I'm not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.

1 Corinthians 9:27

Today's Word:

The people of Corinth knew all about the self-discipline it takes to become a top athlete. Every two years, the city of Corinth held the Isthmaian Games, similar to the Olympics in Athens. Potential athletes trained hard for ten months. If they didn't complete the training or if they broke the rules, they were disqualified from participating in the prestigious competition.

The apostle Paul wanted his readers to understand the same principle was true when it came to going the distance in life. He filled the ninth chapter of his first letter to the Corinthians with boxing and running illustrations that allude to Isthmian Games. But verse 27 lies at the heart of the passage. It explains why self-discipline is crucial for Christians. When God asks you to do something, you want to be spiritually up to the task. You don't want anything to get in the way of your success. That includes any bad habits uncontrolled passions, or lazy attitudes.

If you're going to be spiritually mature, you have to control your body and its appetites.

Through sheer self-effort, you can discipline your body for athletic competition. Disciplining your body and your soul for spiritual challenges is only possible with God's help. Ask God to show you if there is any area where your lack of self-control could interfere with what he wants you to do. Use Paul's words as an inspiration to gain better discipline in that area.

Selah people' and friends like a star athlete who leaves fans disillusioned by acting inappropriately, a Christian who behaves inappropriately can turn others away from God. May we let Paul's words remind us that undisciplined words or actions can have serious consequences.

Our Prayer For Today:

"May we remember to not get caught napping with our guard down which lead to a knockout or submission in the fight. When we prepare for the worst the best will always overcome. Join me as we continue to discipline our body and soul for the challenges that will come our way. In Christ service may we gain our victory and triumph over all evil."

September 19, 2010 ~ It's No Surprise to God

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph…"

2 Corinthians 2:14

TODAY'S WORD:

In life, we all have to deal with the unexpected. Just because we're believers, just because we're good people or doing the right thing doesn't make us exempt from trouble. The scripture says, "The rain falls on the just and the unjust." In times when something unexpected happens, or you find yourself facing a crisis, you don't have to go into "panic mode" or fall apart emotionally. Remember, that crisis is no surprise to God. It may be unexpected to you, but God knows the end from the beginning. He has solutions to problems that you haven't even had.

I can't help but think of the movie "Home Alone"...the little boy who is accidentally left home by his family while they travel to another country for Christmas is able to improvise, adapt and overcome even in the most extreme circumstances as he eats, plays and prays even helping capture and punish some would be criminals. Remember God will give you all you need whatever comes your way.

He has equipped you for every battle, and He goes before you making your crooked places straight.

Selah people' and friends today, focus on the fact that He is with you. Remember that He is walking with you and guiding you to a place of peace and victory. No matter what has happened, He will take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it around for your good! He always leads us in victory, so keep moving forward trusting in the good plan He has for you!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, I come to You with an open and humble heart. I thank You for the victory that You have in store for me even when I can't see it. I choose to trust You and Your goodness knowing that You are faithful. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 16, 2010 ~ Take Off the Limits...

Don't let anything or anyone hold back what God has planed for you!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"I have seen that everything [human] has its limits and end [no matter how extensive, noble, and excellent]; but Your commandment is exceedingly broad and extends without limits [into eternity]"

Psalm 119:96

TODAY'S WORD:

Did you know you can limit your life by dwelling on the wrong things? So often, wrong thinking keeps people stuck right where they are. If you think you'll never accomplish your dreams, those thoughts will hold you back. If you think you don't have the talent, the connections or the funds, then you are limiting yourself.

You are blocking what God can do in your life.

Selah people' and friends it's time to take the limits off and trust God. He isn't limited to this earthly realm; His ways are higher than our ways. We serve a supernatural God. Just because you don't see a way doesn't mean that God doesn't have a way. God can bring one opportunity across your path that will thrust you to a whole new level. He has explosive blessings in store that can blast you out of where you are and into a place of abundance. If you'll shift your focus from this earthly realm and start looking with your eyes of faith, you'll see His unlimited possibilities for your future. Take the limits and chains off by setting your thoughts on what God Almighty can do in your life!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, today I lift my eyes to You. You alone are the source of my strength, peace and provision. I choose to delight myself in You knowing that You will give me the desires of my heart. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 15, 2010 ~ Beyond Your Expectations...

Get out of your fog and rise up with high expectations...
Remember we have power in Christ!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"When You came down long ago, You did awesome deeds beyond our highest expectations…"

Isaiah 64:3-4

TODAY'S WORD:

God wants to exceed your highest expectations! He wants to bless you and increase you. He wants to make you more effective in your job, relationships and everything you set your hand to. The key is to expect to see His goodness. So many people today have misplaced expectations because they look to the news, the economy or other people to set the tone for their day.

One thing I've learned in life is that if you expect the worst, you won't be disappointed. But if you expect to see God's goodness, you won't be disappointed, either.

Selah people' and friends today set your expectations on God. Focus your heart and mind on Him. Meditate on His Word and sing a song of praise. As you do, you'll see His goodness, and He will do awesome deeds beyond your highest expectations!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, today I set my expectations on You! I lift my eyes to You because You are the source of my help. Thank You for filling me with Your peace and joy as I keep my hope and expectations in You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 14, 2010 ~ He is a Rewarder

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him"

Hebrews 11:6

TODAY'S WORD:

Do you see God as a rewarder today? Notice this verse doesn't say that God rewards those who "deserve" it or have "earned" it. It doesn't say that God rewards those who act perfectly and never make mistakes. No, God's blessing isn't based on our performance, it's based on our faith—our belief in Him and His goodness. In fact, one verse says that He longs to be good to those who are looking for His goodness.

Selah people' and friends I encourage you today to spend some time meditating on His goodness and dwelling on His faithfulness. Spend some time reading the Psalms and begin to praise and thank Him for all He is doing. Imagine through your eyes of faith all the wonderful things He has prepared for you. Let His Word shape your thoughts; and remember, He is a rewarder! He wants to bless you today because you earnestly seek after Him!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, thank You for filling my heart and mind with faith. You are good, and You are a rewarder. I choose to put my trust in You knowing that You have blessings in store for my future. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,
Patrick

September 13, 2010 ~ Just Imagine

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

TODAY'S WORD:

When was the last time you imagined God doing something supernatural in your life? Is there a relationship that needs restoration? Is there a business you've wanted to start, but you are holding back?

If there were no limitations on your life, if anything were possible, what would you be willing to imagine?

Selah people' and friends, the only limits on your life are the limits you have in your mind, and God wants to do exceedingly more than you can even imagine today! He wants to overwhelm you with His goodness and amaze you with His faithfulness. But in order for Him to exceed what you've imagined, you have to at least be imagining something! Why don't you take a step of faith today and let your imagination come to life? Begin to see in your mind all the possibilities for your future. Meditate on the amazing things God has done throughout history. Let that seed of faith take root in your heart. I ask each of you as my brothers and sisters in Christ to hold on to His promises because He is faithful. He is able to exceed your expectations and go beyond what you can imagine today! I can only imagine what future he will bring for each of us, our church, our community and the world.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. Today I submit my imagination to You. Help me to see what You see for my future. Help me to take the limits off my thinking so I can receive everything You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,
Patrick

September 12, 2010 ~ Thinking God's Thoughts

Even the brightest and most intelligent know
that to be truly wise is knowing God's thoughts...

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit, and no one can know God's thoughts except God's own Spirit"

1 Corinthians 2:11

TODAY'S WORD:

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God's Spirit becomes one with us and makes His home in us. Because He actually dwells in us, His thoughts and His power dwell in us. One of the ways God empowers us is through our thinking, our imagination. He wants to empower our minds because our thoughts set the direction for our lives.

If we think God's thoughts, we will get God's results in our lives.

How do we know which thoughts are God's? Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God will make it clear. When your thoughts line up with His promises, you can be sure that you are thinking His thoughts!

Selah people' and friends today, choose to focus on God's thoughts. Let Him empower you through your union with Him. Meditate on the Word and confess His promises over your life. Remember with God it is all black and white, don't confuse yourself with the gray areas. As you continue thinking God's thoughts, you will see God's results and live the life of victory and blessing He has prepared for you!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father God, today I submit my mind, will and emotions to You. I choose to align myself with Your Word. Thank You for filling me with Your Holy Spirit and empowering me to live the life of victory You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,
Patrick

September 11, 2010 ~ Respect Will Carry You Home

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 13:34-35

Selah people' and friends,

As we remember those who died and sacrificed for others on September 11th I feel led to share a story I may have shared before. As I read the words below and pulled up this video once again I could not help but think of how these young women demonstrated what it means not only to persevere but to as God's word proclaims: "To love one another!" May we all learn from examples like these and pass them on to our children, grandchildren and others...yes even those we may be competing against. I've read to the end of God's word and we know that He wins. Join me in being on that winning team and sharing respect and love to all we can in the time that we have left here.

Your brother in Christ,

Patrick

Respect Will Carry You Home
An Excerpt from
Finish Strong: Teen Athlete...Developing the Champion Within
by Dan Green

Western Oregon University's Sara Tucholsky had no idea that the first - and, as it turns out, only - homerun of her career would cause ripples that would make her last swing of the bat as a college softball player a national media sensation.

With two runners on and her team down a run to Central Washington University, Sara hit a homerun to centerfield. As she rounded first base, she missed the bag. When she turned to tag the base, she injured her knee. Able only to crawl back to the base, Sara was told that she would be called out if her teammates came to her aid. If a pinch runner checked into the game, her homerun would count only as a single.

Players and fans alike were stunned when Central Washington first baseman Mallory Holtman, the conference's all-time homerun leader, asked the umpire if there was any rule against opponents helping an injured player around the bases.

She was told that there was not. Together, Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace picked up Tucholsky and carried her around the bases, stopping at each bag to allow Sara to touch it with her good leg. "It was the right thing to do," Holtman said in an interview on national television, after the respectful act of sportsmanship had been witnessed by millions on ESPN and had become a YouTube sensation.

The three runs sent Western Oregon to a 4-2 victory, ending Central Washington's chances of winning the conference and advancing to the playoffs.

"It's a great story," Western Oregon coach Pam Knox said," something I'll never forget - the game's about character and integrity and sportsmanship, and it's not always about winning and losing."

As it turns out, the players who helped Sara had no idea of the circumstances surrounding the at-bat, or that the story would make headlines around the country. "We didn't know that she was a senior or that this was her first home run," Wallace said Wednesday. "That makes the story more touching than it was. We just wanted to help her." The gesture left Sara's Western Oregon teammates in tears. "I hope I would do the same for her in the same situation," Sara said. Central Washington coach Gary Frederick called the act of sportsmanship "unbelievable."

"In the end, it is not about winning and losing so much," Holtman, who initiated the act, said. "It was about this girl. She hit it over the fence and was in pain, and she deserved a homerun."

September 10, 2010 ~ Forget What Lies Behind

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"…But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind straining toward what is ahead"

Philippians 3:13

TODAY'S WORD:

Are you determined to forget what lies behind? I know many people don't fully understand what it means to forget the past. They wonder, "How can I forget something that's happened to me?" But one definition of the word forget is to disregard intentionally or to overlook. See, you have to intentionally disregard your past so that it doesn't keep you from moving forward. That means the good and the bad. Sometimes our past victories keep us from rising higher as much as past failures.

If we don't let go of the old, we'll never be able to embrace the new.

Remember Selah people' and friends, it doesn't matter what's happened in your history, it's time to forget what lies behind. Make the choice today to press forward. Trust that God has a better future in store for you. Trust that He's working behind the scenes on your behalf. As you intentionally disregard what lies behind and press forward, I believe God will pour out His favor, grace and blessing upon you and lead you into the abundance He has prepared for you.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, I choose to forget the past today. I don't want anything to hold me back from the future You have prepared for me. I choose forgiveness and ask that You help me, by Your Spirit, to press forward in every area of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 9, 2010 ~ The Beginning of Wisdom

Have you decided to follow His path and not your own?

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom…"

Psalm 111:10

TODAY'S WORD:

Do you need more wisdom in your life today? The Bible says that the reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That word fear in this instance doesn't mean "to be afraid;" it means to have honor and respect. It means that we revere Him because He is God. When you truly respect Him for who He is and worship Him out of a grateful heart, then supernatural wisdom will operate in your life. You'll know just what to do in difficult situations, and you'll be a voice of godly counsel with your friends and family.

Selah people' and friends start reverently worshiping Him today by declaring His goodness and faithfulness in your life. Declare that He is your Provider, your Healer, your Redeemer. When you focus on your God instead of focusing on your problems, you are honoring Him.

As you honor Him, wisdom will flow through you, and you'll be empowered to live the life of victory He has planned for your life!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, I choose today to honor and worship You. I choose to put You first in my life. Thank You for filling me with Your wisdom today so that I can live in victory the way You intend. Help me make wise choices and honor You in all that I do. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Christ service,

Patrick

September 8, 2010 ~ Don't Hate!

Selah people' and friends...

I am inspired to dedicate today's blog to my college young women and men who are questioning the actions of proclaiming Christians who feel led to burn Muslim books to prove a point and spread hate. I pray that we can all take the time to think about what God desires. May we use September 11th as a time to remember what really matters most and not forget those who sacrificed and suffered loss. May we truly be like Christ and Love one another!

In Christ service,
Patrick

Evangelical Leaders Plan Qur'an Burn
NAE issues public plea. Richard Land calls it "appalling, disgusting, and brainless."

Evangelical leaders blasted a Gainesville, Florida, church's plans to burn Qur'ans on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

"On September 11th, 2010, from 6pm - 9pm, we will burn the Koran," Dove World Outreach Center announced on its Facebook page, "in remembrance of the fallen victims of 9/11 and to stand against the evil of Islam. Islam is of the devil!"

"Dove World Outreach Center, shame on you," responded Angel Nuñez, vice president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.

"If I want to win a Muslim to Christ, I surely won't do it by burning the Qur'an in public and provoking them to hate us more," said Nuñez. "The greatest weapon a Christian has is godly love."

The National Association for Evangelicals released a statement Thursday urging the church, which averages 50 attendees each Sunday, to call off the event.

"It sounds like the proposed Qur'ran burning is rooted in revenge," said NAE president Leith Anderson. "The most powerful statement by the organizers of the planned September 11th bonfire would be to call it off in the name and love of Jesus Christ."

"I think it is appalling, disgusting, and brainless," said Richard Land, director of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. "I think that those of us who find what they are doing abhorrent should say so, and say so publicly and often."

Land added that the church's actions "besmirch the reputation of our Savior, and that makes it blasphemy."

"Followers of Christ and Americans don't burn books. Nazis burn books," said Chris Seiple, president of the Institute for Global Engagement.

"Christians are commanded to 'love because he first loved us,'" Seiple said, quoting 1 John 4:19. "Religious freedom is the essence of America—the responsibility to respectfully live with our deepest differences. The proposed burning of the Quran … violates both our Christian and American identities."

George Wood, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, believes that events like the Gainesville Qur'an burning could make things harder for Christian-Muslim relations.

"It only drives Muslims further away from the Lord Jesus and reinforces the false notion that followers of Jesus are crusaders from the Middle Ages," Wood said. "Such actions as these only make it more difficult to effectively witness to Muslims."

Seiple agrees: "If we cannot love our neighbor at home, amidst honest differences, we should not go abroad to share our faith. And don't forget: in a globalized world, everyone is a minority somewhere. Treating minorities with respect is not only the right thing to do, it's in our self-interest."

"Christians certainly don't want Muslims burning Bibles," Anderson said, "so as Christians we should certainly not burn the Qur'an."

September 6, 2010 ~ Cleansed and Set Apart

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"…But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God"

1 Corinthians 6:11

TODAY'S WORD:

Do you know how valuable you are to God today? Not only did He pay a precious price in order to have a relationship with you; He cleansed you, set you apart, and made you brand new.

Think of it this way, if you saved your money and purchased a very rare and valuable piece of jewelry, you wouldn't just leave it around the house or office. You probably wouldn't wear it to the gym or to work in the yard. You wouldn't let your children play with it. No, you would set it apart and protect it. You would polish it, keep it clean and show it off on special occasions. You would handle it carefully because it's valuable.

Selah people' and friends, understand today that you are valuable to Almighty God. He handles you carefully. As a follower of Jesus, He has set you apart for a specific purpose. He is proud of you. You are His most prized treasure. Let that sink down into your heart today. Meditate on His goodness as you realize your worth in Him!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for loving me. Thank You for choosing me and setting me apart for Your glory. I receive Your love today and invite You to have Your way in every area of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 5, 2010 ~ Friend of God

I am a friend of God...are you?

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"…Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend"

James 2:23

TODAY'S WORD:

The all-knowing, all-powerful Creator of the universe wants to be your friend today! He wants to walk with you, talk with you and simply share life with you. That's why He created you, first and foremost, for His fellowship. It's as simple as opening your heart of faith to Him just like Abraham did.

The Bible says that God is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

That means He is always faithful and true. People may let you down, but God will never let you down. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. He is with you always. He is mindful of you; He is always thinking of you.

Selah people' and friends what an honor and privilege it is to be called God's friend! Let that sink down into your heart today. The next time the enemy tries to tell you that you are alone in this world, or no one understands what you are going through, just say out loud, "I am a friend of God." With God as your friend, He'll lead you and walk with you down the path of victory!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, thank You for being my friend today. Thank You for loving me and being faithful to me. Help me understand Your friendship today so that I can be a better friend to those around me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Patrick

September 3, 2010 ~ We are His Representatives

What is God calling you to do?

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors…"

2 Corinthians 5:20

TODAY'S WORD:

As believers in Jesus, we are called to be His ambassadors or representatives in the earth. In the natural, ambassadors are privileged. They are diplomats with the highest rank. They walk in the authority of the name of the one who sent them.

As God's ambassadors on this earth, we walk in His power and authority.

We are to promote relationship with Him. The Bible also calls us "ministers of reconciliation," which means we are the ones to bring the message of hope in Jesus to the world. When you see yourself as God's ambassador, it will change the way you think. It will change the way you act. It will change the way you approach people.

Selah people' and friends today, remember, that you are a representative of Almighty God. Look for ways to promote relationship with Him. Speak words of healing that will draw people. Show kindness because it's His kindness that leads people to repentance. Look for ways to bless others as we work together to build His kingdom.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me as Your ambassador. Help me to understand the authority You've given me. Show me ways to reach out and be a blessing to others and build Your kingdom in the earth. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 2, 2010 ~ Healing Words

What words are we using? Do they sew seeds of healing or hurt?

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing"

Proverbs 12:18

TODAY'S WORD:

The Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of our words. We can use our words to build people up and encourage them, or we can just as easily bring destruction with our words.

When we use our words to bring healing, the Bible says that we are wise. Choose to be wise today and choose healing words. Look for the best in others and build them up. Choose healing words over gossip; choose words of freedom and peace over anger and judgment.

Let your words encourage the people in your life by speaking strength, hope and victory.

Selah people' and friends remember, words are seeds. When you use your words to bring healing, you'll reap a harvest of health, strength and life in return. As you are faithful with your words, God will increase your influence. He will increase His favor and blessing upon you and lead you in the good life He has prepared for you.

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, today I choose to be wise and bring healing to others with my words. I ask for an increase of Your power and ability in my life so that I can live to honor You in all I do. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

September 1, 2010 ~ By His Grace

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

"But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out His special favor on me--and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by His grace"

1 Corinthians 15:10

TODAY'S WORD:

In this day and age, many people are filled with worry about their future. They live stressed out, wondering "What's going to happen if I get laid off?" "How am I going to handle it if my loved one doesn't make it?" Or, "My parents are getting older. How can I take care of them and my own family as well?" Here is the answer: God's grace is going to be there at every stage of your life to help you do whatever you need to do. God's grace is what saves us, but that's not all. His grace is His enabling power. His grace will give you the strength, wisdom and favor to accomplish what you could not normally accomplish on your own.

His grace is sufficient for whatever you need in your future.

Selah people' and friends if you're in a difficult marriage or relationship, if you're raising a child that's hard, if you're facing a sickness, battling cancer, addiction or have had an accident and suffered an injury like my young church member Hunter Grantham one thing you can count on is that the grace of God will be there. Receive His grace today, by faith, and let Him empower you to walk through that difficulty into a place of supernatural victory in Jesus' name!

OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father in heaven, thank You for Your grace and mercy upon my life. Thank You for empowering me to rise above every obstacle I may face. Thank You for restoring my future and equipping me to move forward into the victory You have for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
